Injuries are a part of every sport. Many fighters pull out from sporting events owing to some sort of injury. Athletes go through rigorous training and conditioning programs before and after a fight or a match to keep their bodies in shape. However, sometimes this conditioning cannot prevent certain injuries, as the fighter may not be in control of the situation. During this time, the referee’s decision-making and the opponent’s sportsmanship play an important role.

One such moment where it all went wrong was seen last year in a fight at Combate Global. One female fighter got her hand snapped at a submission before she tapped or the referee could stop the fight. The clip resurfaced on Instagram and social media users shared their thoughts about it.

Fans voice their opinion on the “gruesome” moment

Almost a year ago, Irlanda Galindo was met with a dangerous fate as her hand was snapped by Anna Somers. The snap prompted the referee to stop the fight, after which she hugged her opponent.

The video resurfaced recently, and the fans have voiced their concerns. The post shared by BJJ videos was captioned, “@bjj_momma earned the first win of her professional career in gruesome fashion. Somers met Irlanda Galindo in a catchweight (114 lbs.) fight at Combate Global (APR 8, 2022)”.

The fans added their opinion in the comment section. One fan said, “Don’t hug me after that, wtf”. Another fan continued, “She was literally passing out”.

Some concerned social media users gave some advice to Galindo. They said, “The rule states to protect yourself at all times… Unfortunately this means she should have tapped before her opponent broke her arm. Like it broke quick, but realistically as soon as that arm was isolated from her body and was put in a key lock, she could have tapped.”

Another user said, “Her opponent should have tapped”. Similarly, a fan wrote, “Teach your fighters to tap when they need to!!! Geez”.

One fan stated, “I can’t stand fighters that don’t have control. That was horrible sportsmanship. Decent win but being a pro involves respect and honor. Just a lil too far if you ask me.”

Another fan added, “Horrible sportsmanship, she did it so quick that even if the other fighter tapped the end would be the same. U can see she did it on purpose, should get banned permanently from combat sports.” Similarly a fan said, “Could be clearly avoided”.

Lastly, a fan commented, “This is an mma fight. Not a grappling tournament. She loses that position. She can get ground and pounded. Opponents fault for not tapping.”
