Film, TV producer, prexy of Louis B. Mayer Foundation
Jeffrey Selznick, a film and TV producer, has died. He was 64. Selznick suffered a heart attack Monday during a business meeting in Los Angeles.
Selznick was the son of David O. Selznick, the film producer, and Irene Mayer Selznick, the theatrical producer. During his long career in the film business, Selznick worked as an assistant director, assistant editor, production executive and studio manager.
In 1989, Selznick and his brother, Daniel, were the executive producers of “The Making of a Legend: ‘Gone With the Wind,’ ” a Peabody Award-winning documentary.
In France, Selznick produced Alexandre Astruc’s “Longue Marche,” about Resistance fighters in 1944. In England, he also produced Andrew Sinclair’s “Breaking of Bimbo,” a comedy about a military cadet.
Since 1989, Selznick had been president of the Louis B. Mayer Foundation, started 40 years ago by his maternal grandfather to support education in the arts.
